SEC Power Rankings: Wake me up when September ends
A historic Week 4 has come and gone. After a record five Top 25 matchups in the league, here’s where everyone falls in this week’s SEC Power Rankings.

Top 10
10. Kentucky
The Wildcats played with their food in the first half, but they were able to pull away in the second. Their win over South Alabama even got them a spot in the Top 25 which is something we haven’t seen in several years for Kentucky.
9. Missouri
Missouri was very close to leaving Starkville with a win. But, you know what they say – close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and apparently losses factoring into ranking Missouri in the AP Poll. The Tigers once again found themselves ranked this week despite yet another loss to a ranked opponent under Eli Drinkwitz.
8. Tennessee
The score was much closer than this game ever was. Tennessee didn’t score an offensive touchdown in the first 58 minutes of this game, and what Texas did to Tennessee’s offensive line was atrocious to watch. Still, there’s reason to believe when they scored on special teams and played good enough defense to win. That’s not usually something we say with Josh Heupel led teams.
7. Mississippi State
America’s team. That is all.
6. LSU
The injuries are a concern at this point. But, the defense isn’t, and quarterback Sam Leavitt bouncing back could be a problem for everyone the rest of the way. The good news for LSU is that besides Mississippi State, they can pretty much coast their way into November moving forward.
5. Ole Miss
I don’t feel like getting yelled at online today, so I’ll leave Ole Miss above LSU for now. They did beat them just nine calendar days ago after all. That being said, losing by 24 a week later was pretty telling. That’s why it’s never a good idea to play your Super Bowl in Week 3 dummies.
4. Florida
Oh boy. Florida is good. They may be really good. What the hell was Billy Napier doing the last four years? Florida has the second-highest scoring offense in America, and absolutely punished the No. 4 team in America at home. The Gators have the best running back in America, and seem to be on a war path for the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail party at the end of next month.
3. Alabama
The defense is still giving up too many explosive plays, but this team is much better than anyone outside of Tuscaloosa is comfortable with admitting. The defense can be dominant when they want to. They lead the SEC in turnovers forced with nine and the offense is getting better by the week. Keelon Russell has been incredible so far this season, and this week’s matchup against Kamario Taylor may be enough to vault one of them into the top spot of the Heisman trophy odds.
2. Georgia
Only 306 yards of offense. The quarterback completed just 56% of his passes. And, the Dawgs had two turnovers which was very uncharacteristic.
They won by 28 against a team that was in the top ten to start the year and in the college football playoff a season ago. They may very well be the best team in the country. We just need to see them play somebody first.
1. Texas
Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon was sacked three times while I wrote this actual sentence. There are still some concerns about the offense, and how well they can play on the road, but a top 15 win in Neyland is very impressive and Will Muschamp is apparently back.
