Saints not expecting Tyson back at practice immediately

After being placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury when the 2026 roster cutdown concluded, New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is eligible to return from the injury list after the team’s Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

However, head coach Kellen Moore shared during his Thursday press conference that the Saints aren’t exactly expecting an immediate return for the first-round wideout when asked if the team was anticipating Tyson to return to practice next week.

“Not at the moment,” Moore said. “But we’ll see.”

The Saints’ rookie suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 13 during training camp and has been sidelined ever since.

A player added to injured reserve is required to miss at least four weeks. After that, a three-week practice window can be opened. At that point, the player can return to practice for three weeks before returning to the active roster.

As of now, it appears the Saints are planning for Tyson to take additional time before activating that practice option.

New Orleans has been a top passing offense to start the year. Quarterback Tyler Shough and wide receiver Chris Olave each ranked No. 2 in their respective yardage category.

In the meanwhile, tight ends Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant, along with wideout Devaughn Vele, have all been consistent contributors.

It could be that the Saints’ offensive success, especially through the air without much support from a run game, has the team willing to give their rookie playmaker more time before returning from his injury.

Another theory is that the severity of Tyson’s injury prevents him from being ready to return, giving the Saints plenty to consider when dealing with such injuries where they have a history of being patient.

Moore did add an intentional “We’ll see,” to his answer, which deserves highlighting.

Tyson would be eligible to return to practice during practice for Week 5 after Monday night’s game. While it sounds unlikely that he will, “we’ll see.”
