After establishing a 24-point lead, the New Orleans Saints almost fumbled it away in the fourth quarter in a 34-27 win against the New York Giants. It was a game that blended familiar issues, promising improvements and late-game drama.

A win’s a win, as they say, but this caveat-filled was is also a reminder of how far the Saints still have to go before proving they’re ready to be consistent competitors.

Here are some of the numbers behind a narrow victory that’s not without its bright spots.

0 – Among a few questionable decisions by Giants head coach John Harbaugh, New York’s star running back Cam Skattebo did not receive a single touch in the game.

3 – Saints quarterback Tyler Shough is tied for the most three-touchdown passing games (three) in the NFL this season.

18 – The Saints have now trailed by double digits in 18 games since 2025.

24 – Although the Saints won by seven points, they held a 24-point lead in the fourth quarter.

34 – The Saints’ 34 unanswered points was tied for their fourth-largest scoring run in a game in franchise history.

234 – The total Giants reserve quarterback J.J. McCarthy passed yards in the fourth quarter alone.

2016 – Giants starting quarterback Jameis Winston did not attempt a single pass of over 20 yards in the air against the Saints’ defense. It was his first game in which he had 30 or more dropbacks and did not attempt a deep pass.

2017 – The Saints’ defense notched a fumble recovery, three interceptions and five sacks in a game for the first time since their thrilling 52-38 win over the Detroit Lions in 2017.

2020 – Shough became the first Saints quarterback since Drew Brees to throw three touchdowns in the road without throwing an interception.

5,000 – Saints running back Alvin Kamara became only the sixth player all-time to amass 5,000 rushing yards and 5,000 passing yards in a career.
