The New Orleans Saints saw two key injured players travel with them to Paris ahead of their Week 7 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Included in the pairing was first-round wide receiver Jordyn Tyson.
Saints head coach Kellen Moore was asked during his day-after media availability on Monday after the team’s 34-27 win over the New York Giants if Tyson and linebacker Kaden Elliss had traveled with the team. He confirmed that both made the trip overseas.
The trip doesn’t guarantee either player will be available for Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh. Still, it’s an encouraging sign, especially for Tyson.
The first-round rookie has missed time since suffering a hamstring injury during training camp practice Aug. 13. The expected two-month timeline has fast approached and the Saints could look to get Tyson back out on the practice field while on the international trip.
Once the Saints open the wideout’s practice window, they’ll have 21 days to evaluate him before they must add him to the active roster or place him back on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.
The 21-day timeline would put him on track for a return to action against the Cleveland Browns on Week 9. Recent reports suggest a Week 9 return remains realistic.
That would be a big boost for a Saints passing game that had been its lifeline so far this season. All eyes will be on whether or not No. 0 (Tyson) returns to the practice field when the Saints return to practice Wednesday.
If he is not on the field, that could delay the potential for a Week 9 return, pushing deeper into the season. That, of course, would be less than ideal for the Saints and their fans to face.
