We’ve reached the season of chaos and conference cannibalism, and it’s impacted the quarterback rankings as well as the actual polls. Week 7 brought about new heroes and familiar faces.
Here are the updated SEC QB Power Rankings.
Bottom 6
16. Marcel Reed, Texas A&M
15. Jared Curtis, Vanderbilt
14. KJ Jackson, Arkansas
13. John Mateer, Oklahoma
12. Arch Manning, Texas
11. Trammell Jones, Florida
Tier 2 QB 1s
10. George MacIntyre, Tennessee
The QBR numbers aren’t great. They haven’t asked him to do much in two starts. Except win of course, and MacIntyre has done that. He has a TD-to-INT ratio of 1-to-3, but he’s 2-0 which matters way more.
9. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina
Sellers was on a bye, but is coming off the national player of the week award after his five touchdown performance at Florida.
8. Austin Simmons, Missouri
Simmons’ downfield inaccuracy reared its ugly head against Ole Miss. The yardage was great, but putting up 337 yards and zero touchdowns isn’t gonna get it done.
7. Byrum Brown, Auburn
Uh oh, Brown is starting to play like the player we were promised he would be in the preseason. He led Auburn in rushing yards once again, and averaged over 100 yards on the ground the last two weeks. His 86.6 QBR was the highest of the season.
6. Kenny Minchey, Kentucky
The yardage will never really wow you with Minchey, but he’s been awesome at doing everything else this team needs him to do to win games. He completed 75% of his passes again, had two touchdowns, and most importantly, didn’t have a turnover once again. He still has only one interception on the year.
Top 5
5. Kamario Taylor, Mississippi State
We’ll hold the spot in the top five for another week, but Taylor needs to get back on the field sooner rather than later for Mississippi State to have more success this season.
4. Keelon Russell, Alabama
Russell has struggled mightily in the last two games. Saturday was a nightmare against Tennessee. He was pressured on 59% of his dropbacks, and had multiple turnovers once again. The stats are still solid for Ruseell on the season though. He leads the SEC and is top five nationally in QBR, and he should return to form this weekend against a bad Texas A&M secondary.
3. Sam Leavitt, LSU
Leavitt continues to get knocked for his inaccuracy in the passing game because of the number of interceptions thrown this season. However, he’s third in the SEC in completion percentage (70.1%), and he’s put up an average of 319.3 ypg over his last three SEC games. The 21 touchdowns he’s already accounted for are also absurd, and that includes 12 in his last four games.
2. Gunner Stockton, Georgia
Stockton wasn’t himself against Auburn. He took a big hit earlier in the game and it looked to shake him up. A week ago he was lights out against Alabama. A week later he had his first multi-interception game of his career. Stockton has still been incredible, and he will now head into the bye week with a chip on his shoulder. That’s bad news for everyone still remaining on Georgia’s schedule.
1. Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss
Chambliss had another ho-hum four touchdown performance on Saturday. The Rebels got their third win over a ranked team in their first six games, and are on deck to head to Texas and potentially deliver a fatal blow to Texas’ chances at getting to the CFP. Chambliss had 255 yards of offense, but underwhelmed from an accuracy standpoint. That’s the scariest part of anyone facing Ole Miss, he’s not even playing his best football right now, and the Rebs are still lighting defenses up.
