In person interviews are finally getting scheduled for teams looking for their next head coaches, and the New Orleans Saints are piling them up.
On Monday morning, reports linked the Saints to New York Giants offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Mike Kafka, as well as Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. Both are expected to interview in person with the Saints on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Now, another key name has been added to the list.
Per multiple reports, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is expected to meet for a second interview with New Orleans. Glenn has been a top candidate for the Saints, since they opened their head coach role following a Week Nine loss.
Per Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, Glenn is expected to meet with the Saints on Wednesday. However, there is an important caveat.
Schultz reports that Glenn is also meeting with the New York Jets on Tuesday. If no deal is reached, Glenn would then proceed with his meeting with the Saints.
The wording of the report could simply be a way of acknowledging that something could happen quickly between Glenn and the Jets, but following numerous reports that the Lions defensive coordinator would prefer the New York job, the phrasing looms large. Sources with knowledge of the situation have told LouisianaSports.Net the same.
Glenn is expected to be one of, if not the, top targets for New Orleans. However, there is certainly a world in which the Jets secure him first. This will be something to monitor as the Saints conduct their in-person interviews this week.
