Reggie Bush wants to coach Saints with Drew Brees

NEW ORLEANS — Super Bowl radio row always brings out a lot of fun interactions and moments. On Thursday, one that specifically applies to New Orleans Saints fans took place on the Kay Adams Show when two Saints legends discussed the possibility of leading their former team together.
I think Drew Brees should coach the Saints.
Sounds like it’s not out of the question. #whodat pic.twitter.com/CLq3TTwyff

Adams asked former Saints running back Reggie Bush if former quarterback Drew Brees should consider taking over as their former club’s head coach someday.
Bush not only co-signed the idea, but put himself up as a staff member.
“I would 100% be in full support,” Bush said. “I would also 100% want to coach with him.”
“Saints are welcome!” Adams exclaimed. A lot of Saints would agree. It has been a hot topic since the departure of ex-coach Sean Payton. Many fans have made it known that they would love to see Brees take the mantle should he decide to coach. While the quarterback remained mostly mum on the conversation, he sure didn’t shut down the interest.
On what was holding them back from teaming up on a staff, Brees simply said “I just don’t think the league is ready for us right now.”
Bush went on to make a strong pitch for the both of them while simultaneously pointing out a major gap in the NFL’s head coaching pipeline.
“One of the things I think the NBA does a great job of,” Bush said. “Is that they do a better job of hiring former players as coaches. They also, I feel like, make the path a little bit easier for former players to go and coach. I would love to see that same narrative play out for the NFL.”
One of the most obvious obstacles to this happening would be around Brees’ legacy. He is known and loved all across not just New Orleans, but across the worldwide Saints fanbase. Returning to the organization to coach would come with at least a slight risk of tarnishing what he’s built as a player.
However, that’s only if he doesn’t find success as a coach. Two things are for certain. Brees knows the game unlike many players former and present and he would be able to assemble an impressive coaching staff around it. And it sounds like Bush would be a forgone conclusion to be added.
