Report: Saints to hire Doug Nussmeier as offensive coordinator

By Ross Jackson
The New Orleans Saints are hiring Doug Nussmeier as their offensive coordinator, reuniting him with head coach Kellen Moore and bringing the former Saints draft pick back to where his NFL journey began, per Nick Underhill of New Orleans Football Network.
Nussmeier has extensive experience working alongside Moore. The two formed an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach duo for several years with the Dallas Cowboys before taking the same roles with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 and the Philadelphia Eagles last season.
The two will unite for a fourth-consecutive stop, each receiving a promotion along the way.
New Orleans also interviewed Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Jelan Singleton and Miami Dolphins wide receivers coach Robert Prince for the role, but Nussmeier has been the favorite for the gig for some time now.
This hire marks a full-circle moment for Nussmeier, who was drafted by the Saints in the fourth round in 1996. His return to New Orleans also places him just down the road from Baton Rouge, where his son Garrett is the starting quarterback for LSU.
All eyes now turn to the defensive side of the football, as Moore and the Saints continue to build out their coaching staff.
