Arik Gilbert is on the move again.

The once top-ranked tight end in America will make his fifth college stop in five years, this time at Savannah State, an FCS program in his home state of Georgia.

Gilbert’s path has been long and winding.

It started at LSU where he made 35 catches for 368 yards and a pair of scores during the shortened COVID-19 season. Gilbert transferred to Florida but quickly left the Gators’ program and enrolled at Georgia. After a leave from the team due to personal reasons, Gilbert was only able to play some sparse minutes.

He transferred to Nebraska where things took a turn for the worse. Gilbert was arrested twice in Lincoln. First, he was caught on video stealing merchandise from a liquor and vape store. Later, he was involved in a smash-and-grab burglary incident.

Talent allows for opportunity. Gilbert will get one more in college football.
