Saints sign QB Hunter Dekkers, DB Terrell Burgess after camp

By Ross Jackson
The New Orleans Saints didn’t just walk away from rookie minicamp with a wide receiver, they also added a quarterback and a versatile defensive back.
Following Monday’s signing of wideout Donovan Peoples-Jones, the Saints signed quarterback Hunter Dekkers and defensive back/special teamer Terrell Burgess, per reports from Mike Triplett and Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football.
Saints also intend to sign undrafted rookie QB Hunter Dekkers, pending a physical, per source.
Former Iowa State QB who finished career at Iowa Western tried out during the Saints’ rookie minicamp. And there is now officially a fourth-QB spot available. https://t.co/kOlHq8JAQY

Dekkers brings the quarterback total to four for New Orleans, something head coach Kellen Moore acknowledged the team might like to look at following rookie minicamps.
“We have three quarterbacks right now,” he said. “Certainly, in a lot of cases, you have four. Not always, but certainly we’re ready if the opportunity presents itself.”
The Iowa State/Iowa Western alum impressed during rookie minicamps showing off a nice arm and great movement ability. Dekkers was a budding star at Iowa State before an underage gambling scandal changed the course of his career.
After landing another shot with Iowa Western, the 6-foot-1, 207 pound passer completed 64.1% of his passes for 3,806 passing yards, 32 passing touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions. He now joins the quarterback quartet in New Orleans.
Burgess spent most of his NFL career playing on special teams, but has some overlap with Saints defensive coordinator Brandon Staley.
To make room for both players, the Saints will release safety Millard Bradford and running back Jordan Mims.
