Along with heaping praise on the New Orleans Saints’ rookie quarterback Tyler Shough, former Saints quarterback Drew Brees had praise to share on the team’s new head coach Kellen Moore, as well.

Brees met with the New Orleans media during the opening of his new Surge Entertainment Metairie, La. location on Saturday. During his availability, he was asked about the new head coach, and gave a glowing review that dated back to the coach’s time as the starting quarterback at Boise State.

“I’ve heard nothing but great things about Kellen,” he said. “I really respected Kellen before as a player at Boise State. I mean, a guy who’s the winning college quarterback of all time. They were always going in as underdogs and beating teams that they had no business being on the field with back when he was playing. He was kind of just one of these methodical guys. You can see that he has moxy, he had leadership skills and obviously he was a clutch performer. He’s just carried over all those traits to being a coach.”

Brees knows a thing or two about moxy and leadership skills as head coach. He and former Saints coach Sean Payton brought about the glory days of New Orleans Saints football, the type of success the organization is hoping Moore can pioneer in his own way.

Something interesting that Brees highlighted was that he had conversations with general manager Mickey Loomis during the hiring process, during which he could feel excitement about Moore’s potential as the next leader of the club.

“I remember talking to Mickey Loomis throughout the process,” he said.”And how excited he was about Kellen Moore. So, look, he belongs here. I think he’s great for the organization right now, where we are. He’s great for the fanbase. And he wants to bring a winner.”

If that’s the case, it sounds like Loomis got his guy after all, and Brees is giving him a very important stamp of approval for the fanbase.
