Extra Innings: Texas A&M falls, Mississippi State sweeps

By Chris Marler
The final weekend of the SEC regular season has come and gone, and just 24 hours stands between us and the annual trip to Hoover. Before we jump into the SEC baseball tournament, let’s dive into the weekend that was.
Texas Fail & M
There are not a lot of words to describe how big of a failure this baseball season has been for Texas A&M. They are set to become the first team since the Clinton Administration to be preseason No. 1 and then miss the postseason entirely. To be frank, that is way more embarrassing than that whole blue dress situation during Bill’s time in the White House too.
The Aggies were able to win one game on the road in Athens, but after what happened last weekend against Missouri, their fate has been all but sealed.

Ain’t no fun when the entire rest of the SEC has the gun
Looking at you Tennessee. For years now, the rest of the SEC and college baseball in general has been subjected to Tennessee baseball showing the worst sportsmanship in the sport. Fun fact about me, I really don’t care about sportsmanship. Bat flip as high as you can, yell at your dugout when you get a big strikeout, and absolutely argue balls and strikes when an umpire needs to hear it.
However, there’s a difference between a bat flip after a big home run and giving the middle finger to the center fielder while rounding first base in a regional game like Jordan Beck did three years ago. There’s also a difference between getting amped after a strikeout versus picking fights after a series loss.
Tennessee baseball has tormented the SEC and its fans for years. And to the surprise of literally no one, people had enough. And so did other teams. I should also clarify that it surprised no one except Tennessee fans. Watching that fanbase clutch pearls after an opposing pitcher did something once that they’ve done a thousand times is truly hysterical.

Mississippi State did what?
Missouri is clearly the worst Power Four team in the country and might be the worst in Power Four history. However, after their surprise sweep of Texas A&M, you’d have to think that there had to at least be some nerves from Mississippi State before they went to CoMo this weekend.
You’d be wrong. The Dawgs hung 50 runs on Missouri. Goodness.
