BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU will retire former running back Charles Alexander’s jersey during the Sept. 13 game against Florida in Tiger Stadium. Alexander revealed the date Friday in an interview with Matt Moscona on “After Further Review.”

Video of the full interview is linked at the bottom of this post.

Alexander becomes the fourth former Tiger to have his jersey retired, joining Billy Cannon (No. 20), Jerry Stovall (No. 21) and Tommy Casanova (No. 37).

“I had gotten a phone call about probably nine 9:30 in the morning,” Alexander said. “Shocked because I didn’t even know it was being voted on. I’ve been getting phone call after phone call. That’s pretty much all I’ve been doing today is is talking on the phone and and returning text messages.”

When Alexander left LSU, he held 27 school records. He was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and has been elected to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame.

Alexander was the 12th pick of the 1979 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He played in seven NFL seasons, which included a trip to Super Bowl XVI.
