LSU’s bats go silent in semifinal loss

THE STORY
That offense won’t get it done. I think LSU’s resume will.
The Tigers reached second based once on Saturday. After a four-hit night last night, that’s a jarringly bad result. Kade Anderson, Anthony Eyanson, Jaden Noot, Chase Shores and Jacob Mayers were awesome over two days.
LSU’s lineup wasn’t. The Tigers were shut out for the first time all year. Two hits was a season low, too.
I’m on record saying LSU will be a top eight and can breathe easy on Saturday and Sunday night. It’s still reasonable to suggest that the offense was a major issue the last 48 hours.
No reason to point out every players’ SEC Tournament struggles. It wasn’t good enough.
That’s the lede, but the second half of the story is LSU’s arms. The Tigers used Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson on Friday. Saturday was about looking at a bevy of relievers for the last time before the Baton Rouge Regional.
Noot struck out seven in four innings. He allowed one earned run. Shores didn’t allow a hit in 2.2 innings. Neither did Mayers in 2.1 innings. He struck out four.
LSU got the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Ethan Frey flew out to right.
On to the Baton Rouge Regional.
THE SCORECARD
LSU’s top seven in the order was 0-for-22 with 7K.
LSU was 1-for-9 with runners on base.
Ole Miss got 3 hits, LSU got 2.
LSU only struck out five times. LSU struck out 14 Ole Miss hitters.
