Just days after one player’s comments about how a healthy Saints team could be “top tier,” the health of the team’s starting quarterback is already in question weeks ahead of the NFL Draft.
Last year, Carr missed seven games with a pair of injuries. He missed Weeks 6–8 with an oblique injury, then saw his season end in Week 14 after an ill-advised leap for a first down resulted in head and leg injuries.
There has already been a lot of chatter around the Saints potentially investing in a future quarterback in this year’s draft in order to prepare themselves for life after Carr’s time with the team. Now, the Carr era may have already reached its end.
Passers like Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, Louisville’s Tyler Shough, and Syracuse signal caller Kyle McCord have all been separately but regularly connected to the team. And while the Saints’ options in the draft could look appealing, incumbent youngster Spencer Rattler waits in the wings, as well.
The Saints worked during this offseason to retain talent on both sides of the ball, but the future of their most important position is now unclear.
