Typically, only first round NFL picks have their contracts fully guaranteed. This year, however, the first two picks of the second round–linebacker Carson Schwesinger and wide receiver Jayden Higgins–were awarded fully guaranteed deals.
Shough becomes the seventh second round pick to receive a fully guaranteed contract.
The Saints selected Shough, 25, with the 40th overall selection out of Louisville. It’s the highest the team has chosen a quarterback since drafting Archie Manning second overall in 1971.
Shough is expected to compete for the starting job with second-year player Spencer Rattler and third-year quarterback Jake Haener.
New Orleans is set to open training camp July 23.
