John Emery Jr.’s season is over.

According to a report by Wilson Alexander of The Advocate, Emery suffered a torn ACL in Tuesday’s practice. The senior spent the offseason recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in LSU’s November win over Florida. He was LSU’s most effective back in Sunday’s loss to USC, rushing for 61 yards on 10 carries.

Emery’s collegiate career has taken many turns. He was a reserve on LSU’s 2019 national title team as a true freshman. He missed the entire 2021 season due to academic issues. After his ACL injury last season, he briefly entered the transfer portal before electing to finish his career at LSU.

LSU’s running back depth is now extremely thin.

Senior Josh Williams started the opener. Sophomore Kaleb Jackson and true freshman Caden Durham join Williams as the only three scholarship running backs currently available. Redshirt freshman Trey Holly is scheduled to appear in court later this month regarding his alleged involvement in a February Union Parish shooting. He has not practiced with the team since the spring.
