Now is the time for some New Orleans Saints players to prove that they can translate from training camp standouts to impactful contributors.
As the Saints gear up to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in their second preseason matchup of 2025, tight end Michael Jacobson has an opportunity to take his training camp production and bring it to live action.
Jacobson has been with the Saints since Sept. 2023. He’s consistently flashed in practices and has been an annual training camp stud. This camp has been no exception.
The big difference this year has been opportunity. With two tight ends, Foster Moreau and Taysom Hill, out for the foreseeable future, Jacobson has a chance to earn a regular season roster spot.
The former Nebraska and Iowa State basketball player has been a fixture on the Saints practice squad since signing, but has never appeared or been active for a regular season game.
This year presents a chance to change that.
Jacobson could snag the third tight end spot behind Juwan Johnson and Jack Stoll, both of which are considered locks for the roster.
All that the 6-foot-7, 244-pound tight end has to do is show that he can contribute. Over his four years of preseason appearances thus far, he has only caught five passes for 37 receiving yards. He did score a touchdown in the 2022 preseason as an Indianapolis Colt.
He’s proven to be a threat in the middle of the field and in the red zone during camp practices. If he can take that production to the field against Jacksonville, it could go a long way in setting up Jacobson to finally land an active roster spot.
