Each week during the football season, college football expert Phil Steele joins “After Further Review” with Matt Moscona to preview the biggesst games of the weekend. Here is Steele’s preview and prediction for the LSU vs. Louisiana Tech matchup:
The thing that surprised me was the way LSU’s defense dominated Clemson’s offensive line. I thought they did a tremendous job holding them to just 31 yards rushing in the game, putting a lot of pressure on the quarterback. That really upgraded LSU’s defense in my rankings. When you look at this one, you talk about a massive sandwich game. I’ve never heard a coach talk so much about winning the opener as I heard Brian Kelly. And you’ve got Florida on deck at home. Tech’s actually a team I think is going to do better in C-USA than most expect. They weren’t that impressive last week, but they still beat Southeast Louisiana, 24-0. I think they’re capable of hanging under the number, especially catching LSU’s C-game. But I think LSU’s focus might be a little more on Florida than Louisiana Tech. It would be also tough to take a team like Louisiana Tech, which only had 262 yards of offense last week, to score points against LSU. If I had to pick this one, due to the sandwich situation, I’d pick Tech plus the points.
