Brian Kelly confirmed Monday that senior defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn Achilles suffered against Nicholls on Saturday.

“We’ve lost him for the year,” Kelly said.  “He was a stalwart for us.  Big, physical point of attack guy.”

Kelly mentioned he will have conversations with Guillory and his family about the possibilities of a medical redshirt.  Guillory is in his final season of eligibility.

“We have other guys that are going to have to step up,” he said. “You’re losing a very strong inside presence to your defense…It’s like any time you lose a really good player, you don’t necessarily make up for what he did, you try to do some other things differently that can compliment the guys you have.”

Kelly complimented JUCO transfer Shone Washington for stepping in for Guillory and giving LSU quality snaps after spending much of fall camp on the scout team. Behind Washington, Kelly mentioned true freshman Dominic McKinley as a possible option.

Guillory is LSU’s most experienced defensive tackle, having played in 41 career games.  He was also the Tigers’ highest-rated defensive tackle Saturday according to Pro Football Focus.

LSU plays at South Carolina Saturday at 11 a.m. Central.
