The graphic below, courtesy of BetOnline.ag, is based on geotagged X data from the start of the college football season to now, tracking tweets, hashtags, and direct keyword phrases in each state, about who will win the Heisman trophy this year.
For example, “Dante Moore will win the Heisman,” “Carson Beck will win the Heisman,” “Fernando Mendoza will win the Heisman,” etc. as well as tweets mentioning a specific player that also have the hashtag #Heisman. Over 180,000 tweets were tracked.
Oregon’s Dante Moore is currently leading, followed by Miami’s Carson Beck, and Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, all of whom have had signature wins this season, and whose teams are currently undefeated.
This is quite a bit different from the start of the season, when Arch Manning (Texas) was by far the favorite.
Here’s the current state breakdown:
- Dante Moore — 17 states (AK, CO, HI, ID, IA, KS, MN, MT, NE, NV, NM, ND, OR, SD, UT, WA, WY)
- Fernando Mendoza — 11 states (AR, CA, IL, IN, KY, ME, MI, MS, OK, VT, WI)
- Carson Beck — 11 states (CT, DE, FL, MD, MA, NH, NJ, NY, NC, RI, SC)
- Jeremiah Smith — 3 states (OH, VA, WV)
- Ty Simpson — 1 state (AL)
- Sam Leavitt — 1 state (AZ)
- Gunner Stockton — 1 state (GA)
- Garrett Nussmeier — 1 state (LA)
- Trinidad Chambliss — 1 state (MS)
- Drew Allar — 1 state (PA)
- Joey Aguilar — 1 state (TN)Marcel Reed — 1 state (TX)
