There are several contract extensions that hang in the balance for the New Orleans Saints. As trade conversations begin to pick up around the league, often so too do extension talks.
Whether those extensions are agreed upon during the season or in the offseason, discussions typically start to heat up around this time.
While teams are reportedly calling the Saints about talented wideouts, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Saints and cornerback Alontae Taylor have continued conversations around a potential extension to keep him in New Orleans.
“Saints cornerback Alontae Taylor has kept lines of communication open with New Orleans in recent months. Taylor has inside-out scheme flexibility and three pass deflections through five games. His situation could be like the 49ers’ Deommodore Lenoir, who got a five-year, $89.8 million extension last midseason.”
This would be a move that makes a lot of sense for the Saints. In new defensive coordinator Brandon Staley’s system, having a disruptive player like Taylor at the STAR role is a must.
This could be a big potential move to watch out for as the Nov. 4 trade deadline approaches. Taylor could be an important building block on defense. Keeping him around for the foreseeable future would be wise.
