Every Sunday morning I wipe the sleep from my eyes and go over the storylines we might have missed in the SEC the day before. Most Saturday nights are spent watching LSU, with other games in my peripheral while catching up on details later.
This Saturday was no different, but this Sunday morning I’m still not sure what happened in Auburn, Alabama. If you missed it too then strap in.
SEC Officiating, Auburn complete collapse
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a meltdown like the one I saw in Auburn.
Auburn was in complete control of the game for the first 28 minutes, holding Georgia to just 20 yards of offense and was leading 10-0. What should have been a routine quarterback sneak from the half-inch line turned into a potentially tenure ending loss for Hugh Freeze.
Jackson Arnold fumbled going into the endzone and Georgia recovered. The call was widely viewed as a screw job against the Tigers, but it was technically just as egregious against the Bulldogs. The final two minutes of the first half took 36 real time minutes due to officiating reviews. Really.
Auburn never recovered from that moment and lost 20-10 in one of the most “tale of two halves” games you will ever see.

Bobby Petrino rides again
I’m not sure how white trash your family is, but mine is of the ilk where I had not one but two aunts get married, divorced, and remarried again to the same toxic person. That’s one of the reasons my grandma would always say, “we put the fun in dysfunctional family.”
With that being said, the second Bobby Petrino era in Fayetteville is officially underway. It didn’t look too different than the Sam Pittman era on Saturday. Arkansas went on the road in a game against a top 15 team where they were overmatched against a much better roster in a hostile environment. The Hogs kept it close as it was tied at the half.

In the third quarter, down three points, Arkansas went for it on fourth-and-3 instead of kicking a field goal. Taylen Green threw an incomplete pass, and that led to 14 straight points from Tennessee, giving them a 34-17 lead going into the fourth quarter. Arkansas was able to claw their way back into the game behind another good performance from Green who put up 319 yards of offense. However, Arkansas had three fumbles and was sacked five times, and Tennessee was able to put the nail in the coffin late in the fourth for a 34-31 win.
Texas A&M stays hot
This was expected to be a defensive battle in College Station, but at the end of the first quarter both offenses had combined for 28 points and 354 yards of offense. The Aggie defense put the clamps down allowing just three points the rest of the game.
The offense scored in every quarter. Marcel Reed had another multi-touchdown game with 271 yards of offense, and the defense held the Gators to just 3.1 yards per rush with three sacks and six tackles for loss.
Their last three opponents are just 2-for-32 on third down against the Aggies. They improve to 6-0 and hit the road to play Arkansas next week while Florida returns home to host Mississippi State which is coming off a bye week.
To put into perspective how dominant Texas A&M’s defense was last night…
