LSU’s early kickoff at Vanderbilt, and the trip home from Nashville, meant some fans likely missed what turned out to be a historic Saturday across the SEC.
Here’s what you may have missed.
SEC dominance on display
It was the first time in the history of the conference, and the only time all year, that all 16 teams were playing against each other. It was also just the seventh time in the history of the conference that featured three different ranked versus ranked matchups.
Some slight SEC history on tap this coming Saturday, as there will be eight conference games played in a single day for the first time ever. This did not occur in 2024 and will not occur again this season.

Eww Freeze strikes again
The Hugh Freeze experiment in Auburn continues to find a new rock bottom to hurl itself into each week. Auburn was at home against a Top-20 Missouri team and were favored despite being 0-3 in SEC play.
Unsurprisingly, they struggled on offense, faltered in the kicking game, and once again found a way to lose.

Auburn held a 17-10 lead with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and, on paper, seemed to do everything fans had been asking for. The run game got going a little and Jeremiah Cobb had over 100 yards on the ground. Star wideout Cam Coleman had over 100 yards receiving. However, they were 1-of-4 on field goals, gave up five sacks and lost 23-17 in double overtime against the visiting Tigers.
This is the third straight season that Auburn has started 0-4 in conference play under Hugh Freeze, and his record against ranked teams while on the Plains fell to 1-12.

Mississippi State continues to break its own heart
If there was ever a time for Mississippi State to break out of their two year long funk and SEC losing streak it was Saturday. Billy Napier is reportedly on death’s door in regards to his tenure in Gainesville and a win for the Gators wasn’t going to change the anger from the fanbase.
It was a wild game that saw 24 of the game’s 44 points scored in the fourth quarter, and both starting quarterbacks combined for over 600 yards passing, but no touchdowns and three interceptions.
In the end it felt like another defeat snatched from the jaws of victory type situation for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs were in field goal range to secure the win. However, they lost 23-21 in Gainesville after Blake Shapen threw an interception to a 6-foot-5, 349 pound defensive lineman Michai Boireau.
