It’s been one of the wildest weeks Baton Rouge has seen in years: coaching turmoil, uncertainty and frustration everywhere you look. But none of that matters as much now, because it’s Alabama week, and LSU still has a game to play.
Truth No. 1 – The last week has sucked.
There’s really no other way to put it. Last week was insane in Baton Rouge. A program that entered the season destined to at least compete for a title is now entering November less stable than Ikea furniture.
It feels like a whirlwind, but none of that matters as much this week because there’s a game to play.
Here’s some good news – it’s a new week. I really like Verge Ausberry and everything he had to say on Friday. The press conference itself may have seemed a little dysfunctional, and that table cloth definitely needed to be ironed, but the substance of what Ausberry said felt real, tangible and meaningful.
“This is LSU. We are not broken.”

Truth No. 2 – LSU is not going to roll over and die the rest of the season.
One of the few bright spots this week was seeing former LSU players talk to the team, reminding everyone, players and fans alike, that this is still LSU.
Those three letters on the helmet still matter, and they must, especially for the remainder of the season. Sure, preseason goals are mostly gone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go ruin someone else’s.
To quote Skip Bertman, “hold the rope.”

The Lie – They can’t win in Tuscaloosa.
Let’s be honest, I’m not here to sunshine pump LSU’s chances of beating the No. 4 team on the road. This is a program that’s been LSU’s biggest thorn for more than a decade, winning 12 of the last 14 matchups.
It’s not like it couldn’t happen, though. Crazier things have happened in November in this sport, and a lot of those things didn’t involve rosters anywhere close to the talent LSU has.
