We have a new No. 1 quarterback this week, along with several fresh faces after injuries and benchings. Here are your updated SEC quarterback rankings.
The Sad Six
16. Matt Zollers, Missouri
15. Blake Shapen, Mississippi State
14. Michael Van Buren, LSU
13. Ashton Daniels, Auburn
12. DJ Lagway, Florida
11. Taylen Green, Arkansas
The Top Ten
-
LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina
Sellers got a new playcaller and things finally seemed to make sense for the Sophomore signal caller. Sellers and the Gamecocks fell apart in the second half, but the preseason All-SEC quarterback still had over 270 yards of offense and two touchdowns.
-
Cutter Boley, Kentucky
Boley has quietly become one of the best young quarterbacks in the league. He finished 18-of-21 with two touchdowns and 260 yards of offense against 10-0 FCS team Tennessee Tech.
-
Arch Manning, Texas
Manning came back down to earth after two strong outings. That momentum didn’t carry into Athens, where he threw another interception and was sacked three times.
-
Joey Aguilar, Tennessee
The turnovers are not going to stop, but it is what it is at this point. Aguilar had six incompletions on Saturday against New Mexico State. Two of those went to the other team. Still, he leads the SEC in yards per attempt and is second in passer rating.
-
John Mateer, Oklahoma
That is how good Oklahoma can be if Mateer plays mistake free football. He finished with only 161 yards of offense, but he completed over 65% of his passes and didn’t have a single turnover.
-
Ty Simpson, Alabama
A few mistakes from Simpson kept him from moving up to the No. 1 spot this week. That small margin of error was enough to have him fall in the rankings, but more importantly, big enough to cost Alabama a win and potentially put them on the chopping block of the College Football Playoff. Simpson nearly had a career high passing in the first half and finished with 326 yards through the air. His two turnovers led directly to ten points and the Tide lost by two.
-
Marcel Reed, Texas A&M
What a tale of two halves on Saturday for Texas A&M and Marcel Reed. Reed had a first half to forget, but he had a second half that few Aggie fans will ever forget. He finished Saturday’s game against South Carolina with a career high 439 yards, with over 350 of it coming in the final 30 minutes. It was the largest comeback in school history, and the first time in 21 years an SEC team won a conference game after being down 27 points.
-
Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss
“Win-idad” was only responsible for one touchdown this last Saturday against Florida. But he did finish the game with 311 total yards and completed over 74% of his passes again.
On the season he’s up to 20 touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s also on the brink of leading Ole Miss to 11 wins in the regular season for the first time in school history.
-
Diego Pavia, Vanderbilt
Pavia was on a bye last week, but he leads the SEC in passer rating and is averaging over 305 yards of offense per game.
-
Gunner Stockton, Georgia
There’s a new king of the mountain in the SEC for quarterbacks. Gunner Stockton assumed the throne for this week. Stockton has led the SEC in QBR for weeks and has been top five in all of college football for most of the season.
This past week was another incredible performance when the lights were brightest. Against one of the top defenses in the entire country, Stockton finished 24-of-29 for 258 yards and five touchdowns. Against ranked opponents this year he’s been at his best racking up 14 touchdowns and one interception in those four games.
