LSU’s defensive backfield has a new member.
Boise State safety Ty Benefield has committed to the Tigers according to multiple reports. Benefield is 6-foot-2, 205 lbs. and was a First Team All-Mountain West selection in 2025 and the Defensive MVP of the Mountain West Championship Game.
As a sophomore in 2024, Benefield led the Broncos in tackles with 82 and interceptions with two. He built on that with 107 tackles in 2025. He also broke up five passes.
Benefield has played in 41 college games and has one season of eligibility remaining. He joins a safety group with Tamarcus Cooley. Dashawn Spears and Jhase Thomas, CJ Jimcoily and Jacob Bradford that is among the deepest units on LSU’s roster currently.
