LSU’s backfield is taking shape.
A day after the Tigers added Utah tailback Raycine Guillory, Charlotte’s Rod Gainey is now in the fold. Gainey spent two seasons at Charlotte, redshirting in 2024 and rushing for 260 yards and a touchdown on 74 carries in 2025.

Gainey was a three-star from Tampa in the Class of 2024. He’s 6-foot and weighs 185 lbs.
Guillory and Gainey join Harlem Berry in a Tiger running back room depleted by the transfer portal when Kaleb Jackson, JuJuan Johnson and Caden Durham decided to move on.
LSU could still use a physical presence in backfield, but less than a week into the portal cycle the numbers look better. All three backs have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
