The 2026 NCAA transfer portal opened Friday, Jan 2 and has been open for 12 days now.
By the numbers
As of Tuesday, over 4,000 players in college football have entered the portal. That includes 2,982 players at the FBS level. That’s 84 more names that entered on Tuesday. A total of 1,557 FBS players have committed, meaning 52 percent of the players in the portal have signed or committed to a school. That’s up three percent from yesterday, as 130 players committed or signed with a school on Monday.
A trend that stayed the same was just over one percent of players withdrawing their name from the portal with just 31 players rethinking their initial decision to enter. To put that in perspective, that number has hovered around 4 percent over the last three years.
New top five player enters the portal
Former five star offensive tackle Jordan Seaton shocked everyone when he went to Colorado out of high school. Seaton was a two year starter in Boulder, but he entered the portal on Monday. The way he entered the portal was indicative of just how awful this new era can be.
Seaton asked the Colorado social media team to make him a video to announce his return for his Junior year. He instead used the video to announce he was leaving. He will be one of the most sought after players in the portal, and the starting price to enter the Seaton Sweepstakes is rumored to be around $2.5 million. LSU, Texas, Oregon, and Ole Miss are all expected to be involved in trying to land him.
South Carolina trending
South Carolina has done a tremendous job in the portal and winning the offseason. As we wrote about earlier on Tuesday, they have also excelled at the retention aspect of the offseason making sure they kept multiple players at home who would have been top ten players in the portal.
The Gamecocks are still looking for offensive line and tight end help, but are also in the running for two former SEC players at other spots. Tennessee EDGE Caleb Herring scheduled a visit for Thursday and Texas running back Christian Clark is another name to watch. Clark was the Cheez-It Bowl MVP against Michigan.
Exodus by SEC Teams
These numbers will fluctuate rapidly, but here are the total players that have entered the portal for each SEC team according to 247Sports as of Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 6:00 p.m. CT.
398 players from the SEC have entered the portal, and 282 players have committed and/or signed with SEC teams.
