The AFC Championship Game is set and for a 60th straight season, there will not be an all-Wild Card Super Bowl. The losses by Buffalo and Houston ensured that.
Much of the NFL talk during the playoffs has been about the nine head coach openings (now down to seven), and for good reason. Good coaching matters.
The Denver Broncos and New England Patriots are evidence of that.
Sean Payton was dealt a tough hand with Russell Wilson’s albatross of a contract and a loss of draft picks. Mike Vrabel took over a franchise that was 8-26 in the previous two seasons.
And yet here we are, with both teams 14-3 in the regular season and now playing to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.
Broncos QB Bo Nix fractured his ankle in the overtime win against the Bills and now Jarret Stidham and his four career starts will be under center in the AFC title game for the Broncos.
Coincidentally, he was drafted by the New England Patriots and was the quarterback at Auburn before Bo Nix.
