Good football players come from everywhere.
A higher percentage of them receive four or five stars as high schoolers and play in college football’s power conferences. But they come from everywhere.
It will be interesting to see what comes of the lower level additions Lane Kiffin and his staff have brought in this portal cycle. We’ve discussed Southern DB Treylan James, JUCO OL JaKolby Jones, FCS OL Ja’Quan Sprinkle and McNeese wide out Josh Jackson.
Here’s a look at a Division II prospect in West Florida playmaker Tyree Holloway
WHAT WE KNOW
Holloway has played at a pair of Division II schools, beginning his career at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, N.C. After one season as a Hawk, he transferred to West Florida to become an Argonaut. In 2024, he missed almost the entire season with an injury. He returned in 2025 to make 34 catches for 66 yards and eight touchdowns.

Watching his tape, the 6-foot wide receiver has a knack for making big plays. He had a 75-yard touchdown as a freshman at Chowan. Last year, he made a 98-yard catch and run on a deep middle route that really showcased his speed.
He’s only 180 lbs., so he’s not physically imposing, but he can really run.
THE FIT
I’ve really put wide receivers Jayce Brown and Tre Wilson in a category by themselves. Those two are proven playmakers at the top of college football. They’ll play.
I think the rest of the wide outs are going to fight hard for playing time. It’ll be up to George McDonald to make a call on that.
As we’ve discussed in a few of these profiles, Kiffin’s offense thrives on big plays and speed. Holloway has that ability. He’s just never had the chance to do it against this caliber an athlete. Toss six or seven guys in a hat and see what emerges.
HUNT’S PREDICTION
For some reason, and I can’t put my finger on it, I like Holloway. He’s really fast, and he’s not undersized from a height perspective.
Arkansas found Isaac TeSlaa at Hillsdale, and he turned into a third round pick and Lions starter. Missouri nabbed running back Cody Shrader from a lower level, and he was an All-American who has worn four different NFL helmets. Then there’s Trinidad Chambliss from this very coaching staff.
I just like the traits and the fit in the Kiffin offense for Holloway. It’s extremely possible that Holloway never makes an impact at LSU. It’s also possible he averages 19 yard per catch and makes four or five huge plays with his speed in 2025.
I’m not so vain as to suggest I can sort out this receiver room before I ever see a practice. But of the players LSU took from the FCS/DII levels, I think I like Holloway the most.
