Arkansas will have a lot of new faces next year. Not only is Ryan Springfield taking over as head coach from Memphis, but he brought in 40 players from the transfer portal. Here’s a look at their class with some help from Tye Richardson, the host of Hit That Line from ESPN Arkansas in Fayetteville.
By the Numbers
Players Lost: 37
Players Gained: 41
247Sports Ranking: No. 9
On3 Ranking: No. 28
Headliner – RB Jasper Parker (Michigan)
Parker was a top 300 player in this transfer portal cycle and the No. 22 ranked running back. He comes from a big time program and a great high school program in New Orleans (La.) Archbishop Shaw. He only played in six games at Michigan but finished the season with 93 yards and two touchdowns. There are some other good players in the class, but Parker was a top 300 player out of high school and the portal, and he should contribute early.
Instant Impact – OL Bryant Williams (UL-Lafayette)
Transfers in from UL-Lafayette where he was a starter for the Ragin’ Cajuns. He is a four star out of the portal according to 247Sports and could be a plug and play left tackle for the Razorbacks. He graded out a 90 or better in seven games during the 2024 season and brings multiple years of starting experience to Fayetteville.
“Dude is a stud. Six-foot-7, 315 from Lake Charles. Should play right away.” – Richardson
Sleeper – OL Terence Roberson Jr (OBU)
Roberson was a no star recruit that had very few offers out of high school. He went to Ouachita Baptist and turned himself into a three star prospect in the transfer portal.
“Roberson is from a football factory (Warren HS). Jarius Wright, Greg Childs, Treylon Burks, Chris Gragg, etc. Didn’t play a lot of HS ball, a little at OBU, then his recruiting blew up.” – Richardson
Overall Grade – B
Arkansas had to replace 37 scholarship players in this cycle, and they were able to bring in 41. The exchange rate of talent gained versus talent lost wasn’t completely one sided, but Arkansas definitely won overall with their new additions. How quickly they can gel and win games in year one under Springfield is to be determined. But for someone who desperately needed some good PR and faith from the fanbase after his hiring, Springfield did a tremendous job at winning in the portal.
