Troy Athletics

We’re deep into the portal class at this point.
We’ve broken down 22 of the new Tigers and still have a long way to go. Obviously the two biggest overhauls in terms of numbers came on the offensive line and at wide receiver. When you take nine wide outs in the portal and another three in the high school class, it creates a ton of competition.
It’ll be up to the newcomers to differentiate themselves during spring practice and summer workouts before their starting quarterback enters the fold for fall camp.
Some of the new targets are from the power conferences. Some come from lower levels looking to prove themselves.
That’s where we find Roman Mothershed.
WHAT WE KNOW
He’s tall.
Mothershed becomes the biggest target on the roster at 6-foot-5 and 207 lbs. He began his college career at Independence CC in Mississippi before moving on to Troy.
He started a pair of games at Troy in 2024 and became a full-time starter in 2025. As a sophomore he caught 25 passes for 259 yards and a touchdown. Six of his catches went for over 15 yards, and three of those went for over 25 yards.
He was a really good high school basketball player at Thompson High School in Alabama.
THE FIT
If Mothershed develops into a viable threat, he and Trey’Dez Green are the big-bodied targets in the offense in 2026. That’s if he develops.

Word from LSU is that this is one they trust their evaluation on.
It’s easy to determine Jayce Brown, Tre Wilson, Winnie Watkins and even Tre Brown fit in. They’ve either done it at the power level or have been massively productive.
Mothershed is neither, but his body type fit perfectly opposite those smaller, shiftier wide outs.
HUNT’S PROJECTION
Because of how the staff feels about Mothershed, I’m giving him a pretty good shot to make an impact. I think it’s as the fourth or fifth option, and I think he battles Jackson Harris for that time.
He does have two more years of eligibility remaining, so it also wouldn’t be a shock if Mothershed biggest impact comes after Green bolts for the NFL next spring.
When you’re left with one wide receiver you do have to ad fourth and fifth options to go along with one, two and three. That’s where Mothershed is in my eyes.
I’ll say this, though, no one in football ops will be surprised if he makes an NFL roster one day.
