The map below, courtesy of BetOnline, is based on geotagged X data in the last week, tracking tweets, hashtags, and direct keyword phrases about who fans were rooting for in Super Bowl LX (60).
For example, “I’m rooting for the Seahawks,” “I’m rooting for Seattle,” or #GoHawks versus “I’m rooting for the Patriots,” “I’m rooting for New England,” or #GoPats. Over 400,000 tweets were tracked.
As you can see from the map, America is rooting for Seattle in a big way… It seems NFL fans just aren’t ready for the Patriots to be “good again” as it was just six years ago that the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick era ended.
As you can see from the map, outside of the New England area, only two other states are rooting for the Patriots… California and Florida.
In California, the 49ers are the most popular team, and the arch rivals of the Seahawks (the Rams don’t particularly like the Seahawks either), and as for Florida, January is when a massive population of northeasterners travel to the Sunshine state for the winter. Many of these “snow birds,” as they are called, are from the Boston area and other New England states (there are a lot of New Yorkers as well).
Plus, many NFL fans would like to see Seattle make up for the infamous goal line interception in Super Bowl XLIX, where Seattle opted to throw the ball on the 1-yard line, instead of giving it to Beast Mode – Marshawn Lynch.
Here’s the state breakdown:
Seahawks – 42 states (all other states)
Patriots – 8 states (California, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont)
