The pre-draft process continues for NFL clubs, even with the opening of free agency on the way. After reportedly scheduling a private workout with a developmental offensive lineman from Clemson, the New Orleans Saints appear to be looking closely at another.
Per Draft on SI’s Justin Melo, the Saints are set to hold a private meeting with Memphis tackle Travis Burke at his pro day.
Memphis’s pro day is scheduled for Thursday, March 19.
The 6-foot-9, 325-pound tackle has impressive size and reach with his 34 ¼-inch arms. He also plays with a physical and aggressive nature. His 5.19-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine is also a strong time for his size.
He is expected to be an undrafted target following the selection process with some developmental upside.
Experts have noted his scheme reliance and the steep adjustment to NFL speed as potential sticking points for the Hollywood, Fla. native.
He may be a developmental option but his prototypical tackle size is sure to be enticing for teams. New Orleans is in need of depth at tackle in addition to its starter-level needs on the interior. Burke will be one to watch in the hours post-draft should be not be selected next month.
