For a team that’s usually quiet out of the gate on the first day of the NFL’s negotiating period, the New Orleans Saints have made a massive splash in free agency.
While the signing can’t become official until the new league year begins on Wednesday, they have reportedly agreed to terms to sign the market’s top guard in free agency.
Per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill, the Saints are expected to sign Buffalo Bills guard David Edwards.
Edwards was the big fish that New Orleans was looking to chase this offseason, with an inside track thanks to offensive assistant Will Clapp. Edwards and Clapp were teammates in Buffalo for the 2024 season.
New Orleans has been rotating short-term deals and position changes in order to address their interior offensive line in recent years. That ends now with a four-year, $61 million deal to keep Edwards in the Crescent City for the foreseeable future.
He adds a strong presence as a run blocker with a remarkable track record as a pass blocker following a stellar 2025 year.
Saints are signing Bills G David Edwards to a 4-year, $61 million deal, per @AdamSchefter. The Saints got by with short term deals at LG. Now they make a big investment to protect their young QB and improve their run game. TruMedia had him winning 95% of his pass blocks in 2025.

Edwards, once the signing becomes official, will anchor the interior along with center Erik McCoy and right guard Cesar Ruiz. However, the team will likely still be active in this area for depth and perhaps competition purposes.
The fifth-round pick spent time in head coach Sean McVay’s offense while with the Los Angeles Rams to start his career, he’ll now join an offense pioneered by a different offensive wunderkind in Saints head coach Kellen Moore.
The expected addition of Edwards along with agreeing to terms with running back Travis Etienne are huge wins for a Saints offense looking to evolve in 2026.
