It’s not all bad for LSU’s offense.
Most of it is, but Jake Brown has remained scorching hot despite his teammates’ mighty struggles. The junior outfielder is blossoming into one of the most feared hitters in the Southeastern Conference through four weeks.

His overall statistics are gaudy. Brown is hitting .408 with an On-Base Plus Slugging (OPS) of 1.292. He’s already clubbed eight home runs to match last season’s total. Even more impressive has been his consistency.
In 17 games, Brown only has three without a hit and one where he did not reach base. His three multi-homer games match his hitless games. He’s also cut his strikeout rate down from 16 percent in 2025 to eight percent. He’s got six punchouts on the season and only two in his last 51 at bats. Toss in the seven free bases he’s drawn over that stretch, and he’s gone 58 plate appearances with just two Ks.
LSU will see a different caliber of arm beginning this weekend as SEC play starts up with Vanderbilt, but Brown has already proven himself a capable SEC hitter. He hit .324 last season against SEC pitching with six home runs in only 16 starts. He faced mostly right-handed pitching and gave way to Josh Pearson versus lefties.
Brown needs to teammates to come back to life offensively for the Tigers to climb out of this two-week rut. However, his emergence as a force in the middle of the order is unquestionably a large development for this team.
