Dedan Thomas Jr. will reportedly enter the transfer portal.
Thomas represents the most profound “what if” from the Matt McMahon era. The junior point guard shined for LSU in non-conference play. He was in the top 10 in the country in assists and led the Tigers in scoring as they finished pre-conference play 12-1.
Thomas suffered an injury leading up to the conference opener and only played in three league games for a total of less than 80 minutes. LSU went 3-15 in SEC games.
For the season, Thomas averaged 15.3 points and a team-best 6.5 assists. He shot 46 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the free throw line.
It appeared McMahon had his point guard after three years of underperformance from the position. It didn’t work out, and now Thomas will look elsewhere for his final college season.
The transfer portal opens April 7.
