One of the many wide receivers the New Orleans Saints have checked in on this offseason is Ohio State wideout Carnell Tate. After holding a dinner for him and other Ohio State teammates, much of the Saints’ staff took in the team’s Pro Day, which allowed for some closer looks at several Buckeyes prospects.
The Saints have had a long history now of drafting Ohio State players and this year’s NFL Draft class is littered with extremely talented players from the blue-chip program.
As previously reported, the Saints were expected to hold a top-30 visit with Tate this offseason and now, that visit has a timeline.
Per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, Tate’s visit is set for this week. Just over two weeks for this year’s NFL Draft, the Saints are in line to host one of the top receivers in this year’s class. That means that as the selection process rolls around on Thursday, April 23, Tate would be one of the more recently hosted players.
Tate stepped in at wide receiver for the Buckeyes the same offseason current New Orleans Saints wideout Chris Olave was drafted. Now, the two have a chance to wind up as teammates.
New Orleans tends to put an emphasis on premium positions as high as they are selected in this year’s draft (No. 8 overall). Tate is at one of those positions, but could be overshadowed by a falling edge rusher that could steal the Saints’ attention.
However, should one of those top defenders not be available when they are on the clock during the first round, Tate would be an excellent addition to the team.
While he’s often dinged for not having been the focal point of the passing offense counter Jeremiah Smith, Tate possesses undeniable traits and abilities that could help the Saints’ passing offense take another step if added to their current room.
Tate reeled in 51 receptions for 875 receiving yards and nine touchdowns catches in 2025. He’s expected to be one of the first wide receivers to come off of the board during this year’s NFL Draft.
