Two of the biggest lingering questions for the New Orleans Saints’ offseason may soon receive more clarity.
The future of Saints lifers running back Alvin Kamara and defensive end Cameron Jordan are still uncertain. Jordan remains a free agent less than two weeks before the draft and, although Kamara is still under contract, the running back’s situation appears tenuous.
This year’s selection process may cast more light on where things are headed with both players.
Should the Saints land a top pass rusher in this year’s Draft, Jordan could see his opportunity in the Crescent City insufficient for his return. That could potentially lead him to instead accept one of the other free agent offers he suggested he has available.
A running back selection in this year’s draft, especially one in the first two days, would be a signal of where things could be headed between the Saints and Kamara. The 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year still holds a $10.4 million cap hit, leaving the opportunity for a contract adjustment in place of a departure.
This year’s Saints draft class is important for a variety of reasons. It allows the team to continue to usher in its new and exciting era, it provides an opportunity to build around young quarterback Tyler Shough and provides a chance to build on a promising 2025 defensive showing.
On top of all of this, it could also expose the future of two of the most important and influential players in franchise history.
