Kyren Lacy’s family is suing Louisiana State Police.
On Friday, the lawsuit was filed in the 19th Judicial District claiming that LSP tampered with witnesses, altered video and used questionable language in a crash report. These wrongdoings ultimately led to Lacy’s death by his own hand.
Trooper Tyler Werner and Sergeant Leeman Howard have been named.
In April of 2025, nearly four months after the fatal crash which took Herman Hall’s life, Lafourche Parish’s district attorney’s office conducted and completed an internal investigation of the case brought against Lacy. That investigation concluded the evidence presented did not support the charges filed against the former LSU wide receiver.
The family says that Lacy was overwhelmed by all the allegations and the public sentiment that followed. Among the claims the lawsuit brings are wrongful death, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false arrest and imprisonment as well as malicious prosecution and civil rights violations.
The recommendation by the family is a trial by jury.
