@Saints on X
By Ross Jackson
It will be a few weeks now until we see the New Orleans Saints back on a football field in person, but rookie minicamp had a lot to offer in the first glimpse at several new additions and tryout players.
Among them were a few standout players that either lived up to the expectations, showed impressive development or surprised altogether.
Here are a few of the standout players from the open portions of Friday and Saturday’s minicamp practices.
WR Jordyn Tyson
Tyson did everything he needed on his first day to live up to the anticipation around him. He moves incredibly well, displayed strong hands and showcased his leaping abilities. His movement ability in particular was most impressive. Simply put, he’s different. He had a previously planned day off for the Saturday practice, but didn’t fail to impress at all during his first on-field appearance in front of the media.
WR Barion Brown
Brown offered up the highlight moment of minicamp with a diving reception down the left sideline. His speed and ball tracking abilities were on full display on the play. Earlier in the practice, he caught a pass along the left sideline, he then spent some time off the field on what appeared to be some discomfort. He returned to the field shortly after and then reeled in the deep ball from tryout quarterback Braylon Braxton.
Brown dove to make the catch on a go route, was able to then bounce back up and pick up more yards after the catch. The moment displayed his speed, but also displayed a toughness that could be a major difference maker for the young wideout.
CB Jayden Price
The former UFL star looks to have taken a step forward. He looks faster, bigger and more reactive this year. He already entered the NFL last season with a resume that deserved more talk. Not only was he a premier return specialist in the spring league, but disruptive at the catch point notching the most passes defended in the UFL during his season with the Birmingham Stallions.
Price appears to be garnering consideration as an option in the slot. Depth or otherwise that’s a great place to take advantage of his talents. After already spent a year with the Saints on the practice squad in 2025, he was the most impressive returning player in this format.
CB DaShawn Jones
An undrafted player in 2026, Jones is another option for the slot via a depth or reserve role on the practice squad. He came up with at least two pass breakups in the short areas of the field over the two days.
TE Oscar Delp
The Georgia tight end moves so fluidly and went out of his way to encourage other young players. It’s clear he is comfortable using his voice to support and celebrate others but didn’t lack for drawing attention for his own play as well.
Whether in the flats or down the seam, Delp showed off his hands and pass-catching acumen, which were underutilized with the Bulldogs. He also looked good on the release and breakdown drills he the group ran with coaches as a part of their individual drills.
G Jeremiah Wright and T Alan Herron
Grouping both of these players together isn’t ideal, but the minicamp format doesn’t allow for much evaluation of linemen from a media perspective. However both displayed solid movement ability, stood out with their size and got a lot of pop on the dummy drills, showing off their strength. Both players were hard to miss in the individual positional drills and the walkthroughs.
