While we’ll have to wait until Monday for the actual seedings to be announced, the 16 regional hosts have been unveiled.
Here’s a look at the sites in alphabetical order by host city:
- Athens, Georgia – (Georgia)
- Atlanta, Georgia – (Georgia Tech)
- Auburn, Alabama – (Auburn)
- Austin, Texas – (Texas)
- Chapel Hill, North Carolina – (UNC)
- College Station, Texas – (Texas A&M)
- Eugene, Oregon – (Oregon)
- Gainesville, Florida (Florida)
- Hattiesburg, Mississippi – (Southern Miss)
- Lawrence, Kansas – (Kansas)
- Lincoln, Nebraska – (Nebraska)
- Los Angeles, California – (UCLA)
- Morgantown, West Virginia – (West Virginia)
- Starkville, Mississippi – (Mississippi State)
- Tallahassee, Florida – (Florida State)
- Tuscaloosa, Alabama – (Alabama)
Seven of the 16 host sites are from the SEC. The SEC is projected to field 11 or 12 teams in the tournament. As of Sunday between four and five of the regional hosts announced are expected to be top eight national seeds that would also host Super Regionals.
There weren’t a ton of surprises, but Arkansas missing out on a host site is notable. The Hogs won three games at the SEC Baseball Tournament over Tennessee, Texas, and Auburn to reach the finals on Sunday. Two of those three teams are all but locks to be top eight national seeds. It felt like a foregone conclusion that the Hogs would be one of the 16 regional hosts.
