Nebraska becomes the second school in as many days to flip a blue chip recruit from Alabama, as four-star edge rusher Dawson Merritt flipped his commitment from the Crimson Tide to the Cornhuskers.
“I want to be a part of building something,” Merritt told On3. “I think that Nebraska has a bright future and I think it’d be really cool to be a part of changing that program. Then, I have great relationships there… I’m close to more than 10 guys at Nebraska. I can’t match that. I feel loved and I love a lot of those guys.”
Merritt had been committed to Kalen Deboer and Alabama since June 26th. The 6-foot-3, 215 pound edge rusher is the No. 3 ranked player in the state of Kansas and is a consensus four-star among all four major recruiting services. He’s also ranked in the top 130 nationally in three of the four major recruiting services as well.
Merritt becomes the 20th commitment of the 2025 class for Nebraska, and jumps the Cornhuskers up five spots to No. 19 overall in the 2025 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
