Shane Beamer appears to have zeroed in on his next offensive coordinator.
Reports from Gamecock Central in Columbia say that current offensive analyst and former Alabama head coach Mike Shula will be named as the next play caller.
No official announcement has been made yet. The search for a new coordinator comes after Dowell Loggains accepted the head coaching job at Appalachian State last Saturday.
The announcement makes a lot of practical sense for the Gamecocks as Shula has been on staff for the last year and a half and has worked closely with LaNorris Sellers this past season helping transform him into one of the best quarterbacks in the conference.
Shula is familiar with the SEC as he was the head coach at Alabama from 2003-2006 before Nick Saban was hired. He was also an offensive coordinator in the NFL for nearly a decade including the Panthers OC in 2015 when they went to the Super Bowl during Cam Newton’s MVP season.
