Alabama announces they’ll play a modified Spring game

A day after Missouri announced changes and a week after Texas did the same, Alabama became the latest to announce changes to their annual Spring game.
Per head coach Kalen Deboer, Alabama will be playing a “modified” Spring game this April.
“A lot of times here, the A-Day Game, it’s been more of a practice and there’s been some scrimmaging, not necessarily much of a game,” DeBoer told On3. “ Especially this year, there’s some things we’re working through with some injuries and so forth. So it’ll definitely be modified. We want to try to have some type of event around April 12.”
This has become a growing trend this season across the country. Last season, just five Power Four programs cancelled their spring game. Already this year we’ve seen Nebraska, Missouri, Texas, and Southern Cal cancel theirs. While Alabama hasn’t cancelled their spring game, it appears they will follow a path similar to Ole Miss last year, opting for more of an event than a traditional game.
Deboer cited injuries as being part of the reason why the decision was made. At least two defenders from last season’s team, linebacker Deontae Lawson and safety Keon Sabb, missed the final month of the season.
Alabama’s spring game is scheduled for Saturday, April 12.
