Alabama LB returning thanks to Pavia ruling

By Chris Marler
Alabama linebacker Justin Jefferson became one of the first known players in the SEC to take advantage of the new “Diego Pavia Rule” for former JUCO transfer players.
The recent NCAA ruling in favor of the Vanderbilt quarterback, grants former junior college transfers an extra year of eligibility. Jefferson began his career at Pearl River Community College before transferring to Alabama in 2023. He played in 11 games in 2024, starting in two, and finishing with 60 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks.
Jefferson released a statement via his social media to make the announcement.

“I would also like to thank the people who fought to help junior college student-athletes earn an extra year of eligibility. Without this legislation, I would not be able to continue playing the game I love at the University I love. Alabama is a special place to me, and I cannot wait to return for the 2025 season.”
Jefferson will be competing for a starting job at linebacker next season as Jihaad Campbell is leaving for the NFL and Deontae Lawson is returning from a season-ending injury.
