Auburn chaplain drowns in boating accident

Longtime Auburn football chaplain Rev. Chette Williams tragically died Sunday in an accident on Lake Martin. Williams fell off his boat exiting to the dock on Sunday evening and his body was found around an hour and a half later.

There has been an outpouring of support and emotion from former Auburn players, fans, and alumni on social media following the sudden death.

Williams played for Auburn from 1982 to 1984 and had been the team chaplain since 1999. He had just finished his 26th season at the position with the football team. He’s also been the on campus director of the Fellowship of Student Athletes as well.

There’s no word yet on when the funeral will be.
