Now that the offseason practices have concluded and the New Orleans Saints have some time away from the practice field, there are a few remaining big questions for the team.
Training camp is set to kick off in late July, giving New Orleans ample time to consider their paths to answering the following curiosities.
What will happen with running back Alvin Kamara?
The longest-prevailing question mark of the offseason remained unanswered through minicamp, however, things appear to be headed in a positive direction. At least, that’s how it appears on the surface.
Veteran running back Alvin Kamara has made clear, with actions beyond words, that he intends to be a part of the Saints’ offense in 2026. The question remaining is whether or not the Saints see him as a part of their plans moving forward.
Kamara showed up during the voluntary portion of offseason practices, as well as mandatory minicamp. While there, he was consistently second in the order of individual drills behind recent free agent acquisition Travis Etienne Jr.
Kamara did not come off distressed or irked by the pecking order, again backing up his words with action. All that’s left now is how the Saints want to move forward and if there is a result that potentially comes with an adjustment contract agreement in the process.
If not, an already uncertain situation would become even more unpredictable.
Will wide receiver Chris Olave get an extension?
Much like the Kamara situation, it seems like a no-brainer to solidify things with Chris Olave, the team’s top wideout. However, with a history of head injuries dating back to his collegiate days, guarantees and protections will take time to work out.
There’s no real reason to rush here, as August and September extensions have long been a popular practice in New Orleans, but Olave did say that he’d like to get the new deal done before camp.
Will the Saints continue to add to the roster?
There are some positions in the roster where it would make sense for the team to continue to bring in talent, should the right opportunities arise. The majority of those conversations deal with depth. Examples include cornerback, running back and tackle depth, for instance. But the Saints are also known to build upon strengths.
Should the right possibilities become available, the team could look to continue adding talent on either side of the ball.
