NEW ORLEANS – After a stellar few weeks, New Orleans Saints defensive end Bryan Bresee has turned a corner.

While his impact with that unit has been felt to the tune of 7.5 sacks so far on the season from the interior, his special teams contributions in Week 14 garnered league attention. The Saints announced on Wednesday morning that Bresee was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 14.

He was able to sky over a pair of offensive lineman to secure a game-winning field goal block with just 11 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The block put away a 14-11 win for the Saints over the New York Giants who were kicking a short 35-yard attempt to send the game to overtime.

Bresee was already making his presence known on defense throughout the game before the field goal block. He had totaled a sack and a pair of passes batted at the line of scrimmage. He was also an active contributor against the run, helping the New Orleans defense hold the Giants running backs to just 2.9 yards per carry.

The blocked field goal was the highlight of the day and has earned Bresee some well-deserved league decoration. His contributions this season have been stellar and the future is bright for the young first-round selection.
